The past few years in the bicycle industry have been quite turbulent. A nearly meteoric rise was followed by major supply chain problems, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, order volumes dropped again. At the bicycle retailer bike-components in Würselen, too, the IT systems failed to keep pace with the order volume. The company took action and, in collaboration with several partners, brought its supply chain processes up to date.
A look back at 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the globe, and in Germany, the first of several lockdowns is imposed. At the same time, the weather is unbeatable, motivating many people to get outside and exercise in the fresh air while following the rules. Of course, the best way to do that is with a brand-new bike—or one that’s been upgraded with new components to handle all those rides. As a result of the pandemic, demand for bicycles skyrocketed, and the industry underwent a profound transformation in a very short time.
